The advent of the Lithium-ion revolution for solar baterries, which began a several years ago, has dramatically transformed the landscape for Off-Grid and Hybrid installations, from the lead-acid days of old. This, coupled with declining costs, mean that Batteries are becoming an essential part of most PV installations.
They not only guarantee savings, compensating for the mistmatch between solar production times and consumption periods; but also, with the right system, can provide full-back for the property in times of grid power cuts. Lest we forget the fateful 28th April 2025, when the most of the Iberian peninsula lost power for an entire day.
Lithium-ion battery banks are becoming less expensive, much more practical and are now suitable for Hybrid and Off-Grid applications. There are now plug-and-play solutions from various manufacturers and FreeLight will choose the best available technology and value for money on a bespoke basis for each client.
The future is very bright with Sodium-ion batteries on the horizon, although it may be 5-10 years before we see it competing successfully with Lithium in the solar storage market.
